Salisbury Steak Recipe

Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
½ cup plain bread crumbs
1 large egg, beaten
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp soy sauce
½ tsp black pepper
Pinch of cayenne
2 tbsp butter
For the Brown Gravy
2 tbsp butter
1 cup diced onion
12 sliced button mushrooms (optional)
Salt to taste
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
3 cups beef broth
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Directions
Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire, mustard, soy sauce, pepper, and cayenne until combined. Form into four oval patties and chill for 30 minutes for best texture.
Melt butter in a skillet and sauté onions and mushrooms until browned. Add flour and cook 2–3 minutes. Slowly add broth, then stir in ketchup and Worcestershire. Simmer until thickened.
In a clean skillet, melt butter and brown patties 2–3 minutes per side. Pour gravy over the patties, cover, and cook 5–10 minutes until fully cooked at 160°F (70°C).
Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
