Ingredients
- ⅓ cup soy sauce
- 2 green onions, chopped, with the dark green parts separated from the white and light green parts
- ¼ yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- ¼ teaspoon Korean red pepper flakes
- ¼ teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
- ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 ½ pounds beef sirloin steak, sliced very thin
- 1 teaspoon honey, or to taste
Directions
- Add the soy sauce, white and light green parts of the green onions, yellow onion, sugar, garlic, sesame seeds, sesame oil, Korean red pepper flakes, ginger, and black pepper to a large glass or ceramic bowl.
- Whisk the ingredients together until the sugar is mostly dissolved and the marinade is well combined.
- Add the thinly sliced beef and toss until every piece is evenly coated.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 1 day, to allow the beef to absorb the flavors.
- Heat a wok or large skillet over medium heat.
- Working in batches if necessary, add the marinated beef to the hot skillet.
- Add the honey and cook, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes, or until the beef is cooked through and lightly caramelized.
- Garnish the Korean beef with the reserved dark green parts of the green onions.
- Serve hot with rice, lettuce leaves, kimchi, or your favorite side dishes.
