Ingredients

  • 2 cups oil for frying
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2½ cups warm milk

Directions

  • Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  • Add the warm milk and mix until a soft dough forms.
  • Divide the dough into 18 balls, each about 2 inches in diameter.
  • Flatten or roll each ball into a round about ½ inch thick.
  • Make a small hole in the center of each dough round to help keep it flat while frying.
  • Carefully place 3 or 4 dough rounds into the hot oil at a time.

  • Transfer the fried bread to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
