Ingredients
1 cup white sugar
3 large eggs
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (12 fl oz) can evaporated milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Add the sugar to a medium saucepan over medium-low heat and cook, stirring gently, until fully melted and amber in color.
- Carefully pour the hot caramel into a deep 9-inch round baking dish, tilting the dish to coat the bottom evenly, then set aside.
- Crack the eggs into a large bowl and beat until smooth.
- Whisk in the condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract until the mixture is well blended and silky.
- Slowly pour the custard mixture over the caramel layer in the prepared baking dish.
- Place the flan dish inside a larger roasting pan and carefully pour hot water into the pan until it reaches about 1 inch up the sides of the dish.
- Bake uncovered for 55–60 minutes, until the edges are set and the center still has a slight wobble.
- Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours to allow it to fully set.
- Run a knife around the edges of the flan, invert onto a serving plate, and let the caramel sauce flow over the top before serving.
