Chicken Stock Recipe
This homemade chicken stock recipe is rich, flavorful, and incredibly versatile. Ingredients
- 4 pounds chicken
- 7 cups water
- 1 large onion, halved
- 3 stalks celery
- 3 carrots, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- Salt to taste
Directions
- Place the chicken in a large pot over high heat. Add enough water to cover the chicken and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 1 hour.
- Remove the chicken from the pot, keeping the cooking water in the pot. Allow the chicken to cool.
- Remove the skin and bones from the chicken meat. Return the chicken bones and skin to the pot.
- Add the halved onion, carrots, celery, bay leaf, grated ginger, and salt.
- Continue simmering the mixture for 3 to 4 hours, allowing the flavors to develop.
- Strain the stock through a fine strainer and allow it to cool uncovered.
- Remove excess fat from the surface before using.
- Use the stock immediately or freeze it in convenient portions for later use.
- Reserve the cooked chicken for soups, salads, sandwiches, or other recipes requiring cooked chicken.
