Ingredients
- 1 pound beef short ribs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 (12-fluid-ounce) can or bottle stout beer
- 1 cup beef stock
Directions
- Gather all the ingredients and pat the beef ribs dry.
- Season the ribs evenly with salt and ground black pepper.
- Dredge the ribs in flour, making sure they are lightly coated, then shake off any excess flour.
- Heat the olive oil and butter in a Dutch oven or large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the ribs and brown them for about 5 minutes per side. Remove the ribs and set them aside.
- Add the sliced onion and garlic to the same pot. Cook and stir for about 5 minutes, or until the onion becomes tender.
- Return the browned ribs to the pot.
- Pour in the stout beer while scraping the browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
- Add the beef stock and stir gently to combine.
- Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low.
- Simmer the ribs for about 2 hours, or until the beef is very tender and nearly falls off the bone.
- Serve the beef ribs hot with the flavorful braising sauce.
