Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon cold water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • ½ pound ground pork
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger root
  • 1 (16-ounce) package firm tofu, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 5 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hot bean sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Directions

  • Mix the cold water and cornstarch in a small bowl to make a slurry. Set aside.
  • Brown the ground pork in a small skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and ginger, then cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in the tofu and cook for 2 minutes, being careful not to break the pieces apart.
  • Add the soy sauce, hot bean sauce, and sugar. Stir gently to coat the tofu evenly.
  • Add the cooked ground pork and chopped green onions, stirring to combine.
  • Stir the cornstarch slurry, then pour it into the skillet. Cook and stir for about 2 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
  • Stir in the sesame oil and serve hot.
