Ingredients
- 1 1/8 cups warm water (110°F / 45°C)
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Directions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast, then let it sit for a few minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and oil, then mix to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let it rise for about 2 hours until doubled in size.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a ball, then roll into 6 to 7 inch circles.
- Cover and let them rest for 30 minutes until slightly puffy.
- Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C).
- Place pitas on a rack or baking surface and bake for 4 to 5 minutes until puffed and lightly browned.
- Remove from the oven and cover with a towel to keep them soft.
