Naan Recipe
Soft, fluffy, and slightly chewy, this naan recipe helps you make restaurant-style flatbread at home using simple ingredients and basic cooking methods. Naan is a popular leavened bread traditionally cooked in a tandoor, but it can easily be prepared on a hot pan or tawa. This easy naan recipe creates tender bread with beautiful bubbles and light charring, making it perfect to serve with curries, dals, or grilled dishes. Whether you are looking for a garlic naan recipe, butter naan recipe, or a naan recipe without yeast, this method works well for beginners and home cooks alike.

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- ¼ to ½ cup lukewarm milk (as needed)
- 2 tablespoons oil or melted butter
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- ½ to ¾ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon grated garlic (optional)
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- Butter for brushing
- Chopped coriander leaves (optional)
- Kalonji seeds or sesame seeds (optional)
Directions
- Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, and garlic to a mixing bowl and mix well.
- Add yogurt, oil or melted butter, and lukewarm milk gradually to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough until smooth, soft, and slightly elastic. Avoid over-kneading.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for about 20 to 30 minutes for softer naan.
- Divide the dough into equal portions and shape into smooth balls.
- Lightly dust the surface with flour and roll or stretch each ball into an oval or round shape.
- Heat a tawa or heavy skillet until hot and place the rolled naan onto it.
- Cook until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook the other side until golden spots appear.
- Optionally cook directly over flame for a smoky flavor.
- Remove from the pan and brush with butter before serving hot.
