Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 pound ground pork
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- ½ cup minced carrots
- ½ cup chopped green onions
- ½ cup thinly sliced green cabbage
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 30 lumpia wrappers
- 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying, or as needed
Directions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.
- Add the ground pork and cook, stirring frequently, until crumbly and no longer pink, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Remove the pork from the pan and set it aside. Drain the excess grease, leaving a thin coating in the pan.
- Add the onion and garlic to the pan. Cook and stir for about 2 minutes, until fragrant.
- Return the cooked pork to the pan. Stir in the carrots, green onions, cabbage, and cilantro.
- Season with black pepper, salt, garlic powder, and soy sauce. Stir well to combine.
- Remove the filling from the heat and allow it to cool for about 5 minutes, or until it is cool enough to handle.
- Place about 3 heaping tablespoons of filling diagonally near one corner of a lumpia wrapper, leaving about 1 ½ inches of space at both ends.
- Fold the side of the wrapper over the filling, tuck in both ends, and roll the lumpia tightly.
- Moisten the remaining edge of the wrapper with water to seal it.
- Transfer the finished lumpia to a plate and cover with plastic wrap to prevent the wrappers from drying out. Repeat with the remaining filling and wrappers.
- Heat about ½ inch of vegetable oil in a heavy skillet over medium heat for approximately 5 minutes.
- Fry 3 to 4 lumpia at a time, placing them seam-side down first.
- Cook, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden brown and crispy, about 1 to 2 minutes.
- Transfer the fried lumpia to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- Repeat with the remaining lumpia.
- Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
