Many people love funnel cake because it has a light texture similar to pancakes but is deep fried to create a delicious crispy exterior. Once fried until golden brown, the cake is topped with powdered sugar and served warm.

With just a few ingredients like flour, eggs, milk, and sugar, you can make a homemade version that tastes just like the one from a fair or carnival stand. It is perfect for family desserts, parties, or whenever you want a nostalgic sweet treat.
Homemade funnel cakes are also fun to customize. Some people add fruit toppings, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, or caramel sauce for extra flavor. Ingredients
1 egg
2/3 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 1/3 cups sifted all purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 quart vegetable oil for frying
1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar for dusting
Directions
- Pour vegetable oil into a heavy deep pan so that it is about 1 inch deep. Heat the oil to about 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, beat together the egg and milk until well combined.
- Sift the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder into the egg mixture. Whisk everything together until a smooth batter forms with no lumps.
- Carefully pour the batter through a funnel or squeeze bottle into the hot oil while moving in a circular spiral motion. This creates the traditional funnel cake pattern.
- Fry the batter until the bottom becomes golden brown, which usually takes about 1 to 2 minutes. Carefully flip the cake and cook the other side until it is also golden brown.
- Remove the funnel cake from the oil and place it on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
- Sprinkle powdered sugar generously over the warm funnel cakes before serving.
