Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup butter
- 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs
- 1 pint heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Bring the water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add the butter and stir until melted, then return the mixture to a boil.
- Add the flour and salt all at once. Stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball, then remove from the heat.
- Add the eggs one at a time, stirring vigorously after each addition until the mixture is smooth.
- Drop the dough by heaping tablespoons onto a cookie sheet, leaving about 3 inches between each puff.
- Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (165°C) and bake for another 25 minutes.
- Remove the cream puffs from the oven. Split them open and remove the soft dough from the centers.
- Turn the oven off and return the puffs to the cooling oven for 20 minutes to dry. Transfer them to a wire rack and cool completely.
- Whip the heavy cream with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Stir in the vanilla extract and sugar.
- Fill the cooled cream puffs with the whipped cream.
- Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave or slowly over low heat. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cream puffs.
