Ingredients
- 2 (.25-ounce) packages active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup white sugar
- ½ cup butter, cut into pieces and softened to room temperature
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted, or as needed
Directions
- Dissolve the yeast in warm water in a bowl. Let it stand for about 5 minutes, until the yeast softens and begins to form a creamy foam.
- Combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, butter pieces, eggs, and salt in a large bowl. Add the yeast mixture and stir until well combined.
- Mix in the remaining 2 cups of flour until the dough becomes smooth. Cover and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1½ hours.
- Punch down the dough and divide it in half. Roll each half into a 12-inch-wide circle.
- Spread 2 tablespoons of softened butter over each circle, then cut each circle into 12 wedges.
- Starting at the wide end, roll each wedge toward the point to create a crescent shape. Place the rolls on a greased baking sheet with the point facing down.
- Cover and let the rolls rise again until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter.
